We are delighted to welcome Dr. Joseph Harris, Director of the Duke University Writing Program, to facilitate this workshop, which is geared specifically toward secondary teachers.
The morning session is entitled "Teaching a Metalanguage for Writing." In the first half of the full-day workshop, we will focus on understanding the "moves" writers make to accomplish their goals and, as teachers, we will explore how to engage student writers in a language for identifying and applying effective writerly moves.
The afternoon session is entitled "Bringing Student Texts to the Table." In the second half of the full-day workshop, we will work with a series of secondary-level student texts to explore how teachers can use student writing as a teaching tool.
A light breakfast and luncheon will be provided.
