TITLE: Reducing Behavior Problems and Power Struggles Through Positive Connections
DATE: January 18, 2017
TIME: 8:30-3:30 PM
LOCATION: University Hall, ADP Center Room 1145
INSTRUCTOR: Mr. Michael Paternoster, M.A. Counseling and Director of Special Services (20 years)

Behavior impacts us daily. Get more comfortable coping with people and their actions/inactions by stepping out of your stressful routine. Experientially indulge yourself at MSU with a whole day of understanding behavior, discussing it, and analyzing it through role playing and strategic intervention. Explore the freedom (and logic) of decreasing your unproductive reactions and entanglements with behavior. Have fun with participants setting up a positive classroom (or other environment). Learn how to empower self, students, colleagues and/or clients from a therapeutic perspective led by Mr. Paternoster, who has 40 years of experience with behavior problems and special education as a counselor, teacher, administrator and positive disciplinarian in both private and public schools. We will reference ideas, studies, and theories found in books like ‘Flourish’ (Positive Psychology) by Martin Seligman, ‘Social’ by Matt Lieberman, ‘Mindset’ by Carol Dweck, ‘Group Therapy’ by Dr. Ormont, ‘Lucifer Effect’ by Zimbardo, ‘Project Aristotle’ by Google, ‘People Analytics’ by Ben Waber and many other texts if time allows. The seminar will be interactive, passionate, educational and dedicated to helping you, your school (or workplace ) and your fellow human beings.
