TITLE: Reducing Behavior Problems (Part 2) Through Positive Connection
DATE: April 29, 2016
TIME: 4:15-7:15 PM
LOCATION: Montclair State University-University Hall, ADP Center-Room 1121

Although this is a follow up workshop requested by those who attended Part One, it will also be appropriate for any newcomers. We will review “understanding” the causes of behavior, but emphasize ‘positivity’ and classroom “connections”. We will discuss the application of “group counseling” techniques in dealing with behavior and power struggles. We will look at rejection, “how good people turn evil”, and bullying. We will examine strategies in dealing with apathy, increasing student resilience and teamwork. We will discuss the books, “Social” by Matt Lieberman, “The Lucifer Effect” by Philip Zimbardo and “Flourish” by Martin Seligman. The recent Google Company ‘Project Aristotle’ will be referenced along with some principles of Zen and Buddhism. There will be at least two behavior problem role playing scenarios generated by group interest.

Presenter- Michael Paternoster, M.A. Counseling, Director of Special Services for 18 years
