The Montclair State University Network for Educational Renewal Mentor Institute: Standards-Based Mentoring for Improved Student AchievementWhen: August 24-25, 2010, 8:30 am - 3:30 pmWhere: Room 1120, University Hall, Montclair State UniversityRecent research indicates that the quality of the classroom teacher is the single most important ingredient for student learning. Standards-based mentoring provides the support new teachers need to become highly skilled, committed, and caring professionals. The MSUNER Mentor Institute will provide mentors with the tools to succeed in mentoring teachers during the provisional year.Institute topics include:Guiding Principles of InductionRole of the MentorNew Jersey Professional Standards for TeachersFive Phases of First Year TeachingSupport and Assessment StrategiesMentoring Conversation ProtocolFeedback and Conferencing: A Reflective ModelStrategic Coaching ConversationsObservation: Data Collection Tools and Analysis of Data*The topics covered in the Institute are aligned with the NJ Professional Development Standards and Professional Standards for Teachers. Professional development hours and a certificate of completion for the training will be provided to participants who complete the program in its entirety.The Mentor Institute is recommended for teachers who are or will be mentors for first year teachers in the fall and administrators interested in enhancing their district's mentoring program.Cost of the Institute:(Includes breakfast, lunch, and parking in the Red Hawk deck for both days)MSUNER member districts:$125.00 per individual participant or$300.00 for a team of three**for MSUNER districts sending teams of 3 or more, a fall workshop is provided in-district for participating mentors and their mentees at no additional cost.Non-MSUNER districts:$200.00 per individual participant or$525.00 for a team of threeTo register for the Mentor Institute, click here.For more information contact Cheryl Hopper at 973-655-7641 or hopperc@mail.montclair.edu
