China, or 中國,literally translated as “the central kingdom”, had been a cultural and economic powerhouse in the most part of the past five thousand years in human history. The Silk Road, connecting China to the world for over two thousand years, have brought business, inventions, and the mysteriously magnificent Chinese culture to help shape our human history. The communist government established in Mainland China in 1949, followed by decades of seclusion. Thirty years ago, China started to re-emerge on the global stage through its economic reforms. As China’s influence increases, so does the need to understand how China works and how to work with China. This professional development program aims to address this essential need for our educators to understand China. It also provides abundant teaching material to help teachers in the subject areas of history, social studies, world language, arts, and music.
